Leila Dear
Artist | Educator | Geometer
Leila Dear is an artist and educator whose multidisciplinary practice explores the underlying structures of the natural world. Working with geometric techniques from the Islamic tradition, she looks for links between art, craft and science. Leila’s projects invite participants to discover how the language of forms travels across time and place. From crystalline structures and floral symmetries to sound waves made visible through vibrating sand, she examines how pattern shapes our environment and identities. Grounded in a research practice that weaves together science fiction, medievalism, cybernetics, and design science, Leila’s work seeks to provoke an embodied appreciation of nature and experiences that expand our understanding of kinship.
Leila has facilitated workshops in the UK and internationally where she collaborates with artists and institutions to offer her insights in geometry and traditional skills.
